Basic Flower Bouquet Care

Flower arrangement by Laura King Flowers

Hi Team

So you've been given a beautiful bouquet of fresh cut flowers. It's grandly wrapped for presentation. What now? Well, it all depends on how long you want the flowers to last. Some people will put the bouquet in water and call it a day, no judgement here, but if you want them to last as long as possible, have a look at my video and read the instructions below it.

How to Care for Your Flower Bouquet

  1. Undo the bow, unwrap the cellophane holding the water and tip the water out.
  2. Take a clean vase, pour the flower food into it, then fill it to about three quarters high.
  3. Take your bouquet, trim the bottom of the stems on a 45 degree angle, then place the bouquet in the water.

If you'd rather skip the vase altogether, you can add a water filled box vase to your order and your bouquet arrives ready to display.

Extra Tips for Longer Lasting Flowers

  • Flowers will last longer in cooler spots, out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources.
  • Top up the water about once a week (sometimes more often in summer), and give the stems another small snip when you do.
  • Try to keep the bouquet away from the fruit bowl.

Want to know what happens before your flowers even reach you? Here's how we condition each stem in the studio.

So that's the tips for getting the best longevity from your flowers. Cut flowers are true fleeting beauty, so gaining a bit more time to appreciate the different stages of a bouquet can be worth the effort.
